It was officially opened by the late Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Honorable Cde S.V Muzenda on 24 August 1988. The Institute is situated approximately 500m off the Harare-Chirundu highway next to Chinhoyi University of Technology in Chinhoyi, the provincial capital of Mashonaland West. from Mutare it is 209 kilometers from Mutare along the Mutare Masvingo road. The institute is on the northern side of Nyika Grain marketing Board and to the west of Duma business centre.
